Hi Forum,

In pursuit of Aylesbury Life's
no-punches-pulled-in-pursuit-of-the-counter-cultural editorial policy I
am promoting an article by a guy called Symon Hill. Symon is a Quaker
and doesn't go much on the sale of weapons nor on the conduct of war. I
can't say I disagree with him. As in any case we live in an era when
some would say we go to war for questionable reasons and sell arms with
questionable integrity it does seem only right to give Symon space to
ask some questions.

The article begins, "Two hundred years after the abolition of the slave
trade, Britain is again at the forefront of a trade in human lives. Once
again powerful companies insist that this trade benefits the British
public. And the government is prepared to put the greed of the wealthy
ahead of humanity or public interest." The article can be found at:

If you would like to ask David Lidington MP to sign EDM 595 (perhaps as
a result of reflecting on the article) you can contact him via:
http://www.davidlidington.co.uk/onlinesurgery.asp

EDMs are effectively parliamentary petitions. EDM 595, on the "Serious
Fraud Office Investigation into the Al Yamamah military contract", has
been tabled by a multi-party group of MPs and calls on the Government to
reopen the investigation. The full text of EDM 595 can be found at:
http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=32264&SESSION=885

As always I value your feedback.

Have a good week.

Regards,

Joc
