Hi - I've been sent this via my colleague from Southcourt Baptist Church, in case anyone at HT would be interested. (sorry, the formatting in Martin's e-mail has gone funny, but hope it makes sense)

Dear Catherine,
I am writing to let you know about an opportunity to learn more about Christianity. I would be grateful if you could make this known in your church.
I will be leading a course in the Spring term 2008 at Aylesbury College entitled Jesus: man, myth or Messiah?
As you may know, my background is that I have worked on over 150 reference and Christian books, including The Good Word Guide (A&C Black), Chambers Thesaurus, Penguin Writers Manual, NIV Thematic Study Bible (Hodder & Stoughton), NRSV Cross-Reference Bible (Oxford University Press), Best Loved Hymns, Poems and Readings (Harper Collins), The Christian Quotation Collection (Westminster John Knox), Crash Course in Christian Teaching (Hodder & Stoughton), Dictionary of the Bible (Harper Collins), I never knew that was in the Bible (Nelson). I am also a member of Southcourt Baptist Church.
The course is being run at the Aylesbury College site of Buckinghamshire New University (Aylesbury Vale University Centre) and will take place on alternate Saturday mornings in January (5, 19), February (2, 16) and March (1, 15, 29) from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (exact times to be confirmed).
The aims of the course are to:
Increase our knowledge of the person and teaching of Jesus Christ.
Understand the relevance and significance of Jesus Christ to the modern world.
Apply the message of Jesus Christ to contemporary life.
Themes we will consider include: the incarnation; the main events in the Gospel; the main aspects of Christs ministry and teaching, including the kingdom of God; Jesus names and titles; his death resurrection, ascension and second coming.
The course is aimed at Christians in need of teaching and it would also be useful to those wanting to find out more about Christianity.
There will be opportunities not only to listen to teaching but also to participate in group discussion.
As part of the course, students would need to complete an assignment which could be in the form of taking a role in a discussion or compiling a short written work we are still finalizing the details of this.
The course is recognized as being of first-degree quality and standard, and it carries a ten-credit rating.
The cost for the seven sessions would be £85.
In the next few weeks I will email you a poster for this course. Id be grateful if you could make this opportunity widely known. Many thanks.
If you want to know more about this, please let me know.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Martin H. Manser
